Skoda began its journey back in 1895 in the Czech town of Mladá Boleslav. Two enthusiasts, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, opened a workshop to repair and manufacture bicycles. This was the birth of a brand that years later would become one of the largest car manufacturers in the world.
The first years the company was engaged in the production of bicycles and motorbikes. But already at the beginning of the XX century Laurin & Klement (that was the name of the company at that time) mastered the production of cars. Their cars quickly gained popularity due to reliability and availability. In 1925, Laurin & Klement merged with the industrial concern Skoda, specialising in the production of weapons and heavy engineering. This allowed to combine resources and accelerate the development of the automotive business.
After World War II, Skoda was nationalised and focused on the production of small but practical cars that were popular in Eastern Europe. The breakthrough for the brand came in 1991 when the company became part of the Volkswagen Group. This allowed Skoda access to innovation and investment, which led to the renewal of the model range. Today, Skoda is an international brand offering a variety of cars in different classes. Skoda cars are characterised by practicality, safety and reasonable value for money.
