Mazda MX-30: Decoding the Price Spectrum of the Pioneering Electric Crossover

The Mazda MX-30 is a compact electric crossover vehicle produced by Mazda starting in early 2020. Based on the CX-30, the vehicle was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and is Mazda's first high-volume electric vehicle. Technically, it is an all-new vehicle, although the exterior dimensions are almost identical to the Mazda CX-30 unveiled a few months earlier, in March 2019.

Until now, the MX nomenclature has been largely reserved for Mazda's lineup of sports cars. However, the manufacturer explained that throughout the brand's history, cars have received this designation to distinguish them as particularly innovative. Its stylish appearance with its distinctive "classic" type doors and taut body lines is eye-catching. The manufacturer has emphasized eco-friendliness by using recycled materials in the interior, which emphasizes the philosophy of sustainability.

Mazda MX-30 Features:

• The electric car was first shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2019, with sales beginning in the second half of 2020. Production of the model started in May of the same year.
• This crossover is powered by an electric motor with 143 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque, which works in conjunction with a 35 kW battery pack. The MX-30 stands out for its unusual rear half-door design, similar to the one used in the Mazda RX-8. On a single charge, the crossover is capable of driving up to 200 kilometers on the WLTP standard.
• Although this model belongs to the crossover class, Mazda has given it the MX name, which was previously used exclusively for sports cars and roadsters such as the Mazda MX-5.
• A hybrid version is also available, powered by a 2.0 L e-Skyactiv-G MHEV I4 engine that develops 145 horses.
• The interior is designed to give passengers a sense of 'enveloping openness'. This is enhanced by elements such as the floating center console and unusual materials designed to minimize environmental impact.

The design team paid special attention not only to selecting the right materials for the interior, but also to placing them in such a way as to best showcase their qualities.

For example, traditional cork has been used on the center console surface to emphasize the texture and visual warmth of this material. On the sides of the doors, a fibrous fabric with a texture that seems to allow air to pass through has been used, further emphasizing the sense of lightness and openness of the interior created by the many carefully crafted details.

Both of these materials are designed with sustainability and renewability in mind. The fabric for the door upholstery is created from recycled plastic bottles, while the cork is derived from the bark of trees without cutting them down. Moreover, Mazda replaces genuine leather upholstery with a material that mimics it but is not derived from animals.

Mazda MX-30 is the first model of the brand to feature an air conditioning control panel with a 7-inch touchscreen located at the bottom of the center console. The controls are clearly arranged and intelligently grouped for safe and intuitive operation.
