Hyundai Elantra: In-depth Price Analysis of the Popular Compact Sedan

Hyundai Elantra is a mid-size passenger car produced by the Korean concern since 1991. In some markets it was sold under the names Lantra and Avante. The car has received awards more than once:

  • 2008 "top pick" from Consumer Reports magazine
  • 2009 "highest quality compact car" from the marketing firm J.D. Power and Associates.

The Hyundai Elantra is several generations old:

First generation,J1 (1990-1995). Created as an alternative to budget Japanese cars. It was produced in a sedan body and equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. Hyundai Elantra 1 generation had a wide choice of gasoline engines: 1.5L (86 hp), 1.6L (114 hp), 1.8L (126 hp).

Second Generation,J2 (1995-1998),J3 (1998-2000). The design is made in a rounded style, without sharp corners. The body has double-sided galvanization. It was produced in sedan and station wagon (Lantra Station). The car was equipped with the following engines:

  • gasoline: 1.5 liters (101 hp), 1.6 liters (114 hp), 1.8 liters (128 hp), 2.0 liters (139 hp)
  • diesel 1.9 l (69 hp)

In 1998, the generation received a facelift, during which the shape of the optics, bumper and hood were changed.

Third Generation,XD (2000-2006). The station wagon body was replaced by a hatchback. Gearboxes remained the same. Equipped with these engines:

  • gasoline: 1.6 liters (107 hp), 2.0 liters (143 hp)
  • turbodiesel 2.0 liter (113 hp)

Third Generation,HD (2006-2011). It was produced in sedan and station wagon versions (Elantra Touring). The interior became more spacious, and the engines were completely replaced by:

  • gasoline: 1.6 liter (122 hp), 1.6 liter Hybrid (136 hp), 2.0 liter (143 hp)
  • turbodiesel 1.6 liter (116 hp)

The disadvantages of this generation include the old four-speed gearbox.

Fourth generation,MD (2010-2015). It has several modifications:

  • Elantra Langdong - long version.
  • Elantra Coupe (JK) - a coupe based on a sedan
  • Elantra GT - a hatchback for the US and Canada based on the Hyundai i30

The model finally gets a new automatic transmission, as well as new direct injection (GDI) engines.

Fifth Generation,AD (2015-2020).It made its debut in November 2015 in Los Angeles. It is a compact sedan, but has modifications Elantra Sport і Elantra GT. The car was equipped with these engines:

  • gasoline: 1.4 liters (130 hp), 1.6 liters (127 hp), 1.6 liters (203 hp), 2.0 liters (156 hp)
  • turbodiesel 2.0 liter (113 hp)

In 2018, the auto received an exterior refresh.

Sixth generation,CN7 (from 2020).Built on the new Hyundai-Kia K3 platform. In the base version, the car has a 2.0 liter engine and a continuously variable transmission. The hybrid version has a consumption of 4.3 l/100km. For 2024, the exterior has been updated and side cushions for rear passengers have been added.
