Ford Transit: In-depth Price Analysis of Ford's Iconic Commercial Van

Ford Transit is a legendary commercial vehicle known for reliability, functionality and a wide range of modifications. It has been serving as a helper for business and private individuals engaged in cargo and passenger transportation for decades. Depending on the modification, Transit can carry significant cargo and has a large volume of cargo compartment. The Transit is designed for intensive operation in various conditions. There are many variants of the body (van, minibus, chassis), length of the base, roof height and other parameters, which allows you to choose a car for specific tasks. Modern Ford Transit engines are characterized by high fuel economy.

The Ford Transit has undergone several significant changes in its long history, evolving from a simple truck to a modern commercial vehicle:

  • First Generation (1953-1965). The first Transit was introduced in 1965 and immediately gained popularity due to its simplicity and reliability. The van was introduced in 1953 as the FK 1000 (Ford Köln carries 1000 kg). At the beginning of 1958, a new model FK 1250 with a payload of 1250 kg was added to the range. Both 1.2 and 1.5 liter gasoline engines were available.
  • Second Generation (1965-1978). The second generation was characterized by a more modern design and an expanded range of engines. The car received gasoline engines for 1.7 and 2.0 liters. Later representatives of the diesel engine with an effective power of 43 hp (32 kW), received from Perkins.
  • Third Generation (1978-1985). The third generation Transit became more aerodynamic and received new engines. Instead of Essex V4 engine, the Pinto from Ford Cortina was installed. And already in 1984, the York diesel power unit was redesigned in 2.5 L "DI" (direct injection).
  • Fourth generation, VE6 / VE64 / VE83 (1986-2003). The fourth generation was characterized by a high level of comfort and safety. The 1.6- and 2.0-liter Pinto engines of the OHC type became available for the Transit. In 1988, the brand introduced a new diesel with direct injection, which was 2.5 liter DI.
  • Fifth generation, V184 / V185 (2000-2006). The fifth generation Transit received a new design and a wider range of modifications. The car was available with front and rear-wheel drive. The car is equipped with 6 types of turbocharged Duratorq diesel engines with different power supply systems with a working volume of 2.0 and 2.4 liters with an output of 75-125 hp, and for the heaviest models there is a 2.3-liter gasoline engine with an output of 145 hp.
  • Sixth generation, V347 / V348 (2006-2014). The sixth generation Transit became more technologically advanced and received modern engines. The old gasoline engine was replaced by an engine from the Ford Ranger, the front-wheel drive diesel unit went from a displacement of 2.0 to 2.2 liters, and all diesel engines were supplemented with HPCR (TDCi) systems. A six-speed transmission in a drive axle unit was introduced for the front-wheel-drive mid-engine model in late 2008, when the 110 hp mtor was improved to 115 hp.
  • Seventh generation, V363 (from 2014). The seventh generation Transit is a modern commercial vehicle that combines functionality, economy and comfort. 4 Duratorq diesel units have been replaced by a single 2.0-liter in-line turbodiesel EcoBlue engine. The EcoBlue engine is available in different power variants (105, 130, 170, 170, 185 hp), as well as in a mild hybrid modification (with 130 hp).
