Over the years, it has gone through several generations, each bringing its own unique characteristics.

1 generation (1998-2004). The first generation was offered in hatchback and station wagon bodies. There were available gasoline engines for 1.4-2.0 liters, as well as a diesel engine for 1.8 liters. Drive was front-wheel drive, transmission was manual or automatic. Suspension in front - McPherson, behind - independent with the effect of thrusting wheels on a turn Control Blade. At the same time there were available 3 variants of configuration - Ambiente, Comfort and Ghia.
2nd generation (2004-2011). The second generation became larger and more comfortable than its predecessor. A sedan body was added. Drive and transmission options remained unchanged. Available were such engines - gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6-2.0 liters, diesel engines for 1.6 and 2.0 liters. There were 4 configurations - Ambiente, Comfort, Trend, Chia. In 2008, Ford Focus II was restyled. Headlights, hood, wings, bumpers and mirrors were changed.
Generation 3 (2011-2018). The third generation Focus received a dynamic design and improved handling. A high-performance ST version was presented. Transmission is manual or robotized PowerShift, front-wheel drive. Among the innovations are Ecoboost engines and 6-speed pre-selective gearbox PowerShift by Getrag with two "dry" clutches.
4th generation (as of 2018). The fourth generation Focus is built on a new platform and is characterized by a more modern design, improved technology and a variety of engines. The series of power units includes 3-cylinder EcoBoosts 1.0 liter (85, 100 and 125 hp), 1.5 liter (150, 182 hp), as well as diesel "fours" like EcoBlue 1.5 liter (95, 120 hp) and 2.0 liter (150 hp, 370 N-m). These units are complemented by six-speed "mechanics", and some variants received and optional eight-speed "automatic" with adaptation of shifting speeds to driving style, ascents, descents and turns. For the first time on the Focus appeared adaptive shock absorbers Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), available for versions with independent rear suspension. The Sync 3 multimedia system has also been fitted.
