The Ford Fiesta has gone through several generations, each bringing its own innovations and improvements.

• First generation (1976-1983). The first Fiesta was introduced in 1976 and immediately gained popularity due to its simplicity and reliability. It is a hatchback with front-wheel drive, manual transmission and gasoline engines with 40-60 hp.
• Second Generation (1983-1989). The second generation featured a more modern design and an expanded engine lineup. Body and drive variants remained unchanged. In addition to manual transmission, automatic transmission became available. Diesel engines were added to the gasoline units, and the power increased to 75 hp.
• Third Generation (1989-1997). The third generation became more aerodynamic and received new engines. Despite the fact that the technical characteristics remained almost the same as in the last generation, the power of the engines increased to 90 hp. At the end of 1994, the XR2 was replaced by a less sporty version ST with a 1.4 or 1.6 liter Zetec engine.
• Fourth Generation (1995-1999). The fourth generation was characterized by a higher level of comfort and safety. The Fiesta was the first car of its class to feature electronic four-channel ABS, brake force distribution and traction control. The 1.0 and 1.1 liter units were used alongside the 1.4 PTE and 1.6/1.8 Zetec. The 1.3 liter gasoline and 1.8 liter diesel were retained, as were the standard manual transmission and optional variator.
• Fifth generation (1999-2002). The fifth generation Fiesta received a new design and a wider range of modifications. The range of power units was supplemented by new Zetec models with displacement of 1.25, 1.4, and 1.6 liters.
• Sixth generation (2002-2008). The sixth generation Fiesta became more technologically advanced and received modern engines. Compared to the previous generation, the Fiesta has become larger in size, heavier, with an increased wheelbase. The 4-cylinder 1.6-liter motor with 100 hp, equipped with a 5-speed manual, provides adequate acceleration.
• Seventh Generation (2008-2017). It is a compact car that combines style, comfort and economy. Available several atmospheric engines from 1.0 to 1.6 liters (80-120 hp), later added 1-liter turbocharged Ecoboost engine, as well as diesels for 1.4 and 1.6 liters (68-95 hp). One of the novelties of the model is a motor 1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT (115 hp) with a system of changing the timing of gas distribution on the inlet.
• Eighth Generation (as of 2017). The car is almost the same as the last generation, but it has become bigger and safer.
