Fiat Punto

Fiat Punto: A Comprehensive Price Analysis of the Italian Supermini Icon

Fiat Punto is a compact passenger car that was produced from 1993 to 2018. Fiat specially built a new plant in Melfi (Italy) to produce this car.

  • First generation - 1993-1999. It was produced in hatchback, convertible and van bodies. The car was built on a platform that was shared with Lancia Ypsilon and Fiat Barchetta. The body silhouette was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. In 1995, the car was named Car of the Year. A total of 3.429 million units of Punto of the first generation were produced. Cars of this model were produced with diesel and gasoline engines. Transmission: manual or variator.
  • Second generation - 1999-2007. Unlike the previous generation, the convertible version was removed, but the other body types remained. The body of Fiat Punto became fully galvanized. The car was designed in accordance with the then brand philosophy called 6x2, which meant that the car had to be designed in such a way that one floor plate and body structure would serve two consecutive models, which were produced for 6 years each. Changes were therefore limited to the exterior and interior styling elements of the car. In 2001, versions with continuously variable transmission (CVT) were launched. During the restyling, a new 1.4 16V gasoline engine with 95 hp was introduced, as well as a 1.3-liter diesel engine with Multijet technology and 70 hp. The HGT version is also enriched with a version with a 1.9 Multijet 8v diesel engine with 100 hp (74 kW) at 4,000 rpm, which accelerates the Punto from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds.
  • Third generation - 2005-2018. The car was the first to be built on the GM Fiat SCCS platform. The exterior styling was developed by Italdesign, an Italian styling studio led by Giorgetto Giugiaro in collaboration with Centro Stile Fiat. The appearance of the model refers to the history of the Italian automobile industry, in particular: front headlights similar to those used in Maserati models, as well as narrow taillights placed on the pillars, similar to the headlights in previous generations of the car. The car was initially offered as a 3-door hatchback. In 2006, a 5-door hatchback version was introduced to the market. The car was also available as a van.
