Catalog / Borgward
Borgward is a German car brand with a rich history and an unexpected revival. Founded in 1919 by Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Borgward, the company quickly became one of Germany's leading car manufacturers in the post-war period.
The brand's origins can be traced back to the small firm Bremer Kühlerfabrik Borgward & Co. which originally manufactured radiators. In 1924, the first vehicle under the Blitzkarren brand was produced - a small three-wheeled lorry. The success of this model allowed the company to expand and start producing passenger cars.
In 1929 Borgward acquired the Hansa-Lloyd AG automobile company, which was the beginning of the Borgward Group. The company produced a number of successful models in the 1930s, including the Hansa 1100 and the Borgward Hansa 2300.
After the Second World War, Borgward experienced a real heyday. The Isabella, introduced in 1954, was a smash hit and a symbol of Germany's economic miracle. The company was famous for its innovations: Borgward was the first German manufacturer to use air suspension in production cars.
However, financial difficulties led to the company's bankruptcy in 1961. This event came as a shock to the German car industry and caused much debate about the causes of the collapse.
It seemed that the history of Borgward ended there, but in 2008 the grandson of the founder, Christian Borgward, announced plans to revive the legendary brand. In 2015, the brand was officially relaunched with the support of Chinese investors.
The new era of Borgward began with the presentation of the BX7 crossover at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015. It was followed by the BX5 and BX3 models, targeting the fast-growing SUV market.
Interesting fact: Borgward was a pioneer in vehicle safety. In the 1950s, the company conducted crash tests, which was rare for the time.
Today, Borgward has positioned itself as a premium car manufacturer with German roots and modern technology. The company aims to combine the brand's rich heritage with innovations in electrification and autonomous driving.
Despite its ambitious plans, the revitalised Borgward faces serious competition in the global automotive market. The brand's success depends largely on its ability to appeal to customers nostalgic for classic German cars while offering state-of-the-art technology and design.
The cost of Borgward cars varies depending on the model and equipment. On average, prices for new cars from this brand range from €25,000 to €45,000.
Factors affecting the cost of Borgward:
It is important to note that used Borgward prices can be significantly lower due to the relatively low popularity of the brand and rapid loss of value.
The most affordable car in the Borgward range is the BX3 compact crossover. Its starting price in the basic configuration is about 25,000 euros.
Factors affecting the price of the base model BX3:
Even in its basic configuration, the BX3 is equipped with climate control, a touchscreen multimedia system and a basic set of safety systems, making it competitive in its segment.
The most expensive car in Borgward's current line-up is the flagship BX7 crossover in top-end configuration. Its price can reach 45,000 - 50,000 euros depending on the options selected.
Factors influencing the high price of the top-end version of the BX7:
It's worth noting that even the most expensive Borgward model remains relatively affordable compared to similar offerings from more well-known German premium brands.
