The BMW i3 is the first production electric (hybrid) car from German company BMW, produced from 2013 to 2022.
The BMW i3 is an uncompromising and attractive vehicle that meets today's and tomorrow's demands for mobility in urban areas; the world's first premium car designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle and therefore with zero emissions; the specially developed LifeDrive architecture, specialized BMW eDrive technology, BMW-typical rear-wheel drive and revolutionary lightweight construction create the basis for the perfect balance between driving pleasure, driving range and weight.
In the base version, the car is powered by an electric motor with an output of 125 kW (170 hp) and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. Charging the car from a household outlet takes about eight hours, but the charging time can be reduced to four hours by using a wall charger. The car has a driving range of around 160 kilometers after one full charging cycle.
The top-end variant of the BMW i3S was unveiled in August 2017. In addition to the widened wheel arches and visual differences, the car is powered by a 136 kW (184 hp) electric motor. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The driving range on a single charge is about 160 kilometers.
Between 2013 and 2018, BMW also offered a hybrid version of the car with an internal combustion engine that acted as a so-called "range extender". The BMW i3 REx was equipped with a two-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 647 cm³ and an output of 28 kW/38 hp, which increased the vehicle's range to around 300 km.
