BMW 5 Series: In-depth Price Analysis and Market Valuation Insights

BMW 5 Series is an executive class model (E segment), produced since 1972. This model replaced the BMW Neue Klasse series. To date, 7 generations of this car have been produced:

  • First generation (E12) - from 1972 to 1984. It was produced in a sedan body. The first available 520 and 520i models were equipped with in-line 4-cylinder engines. The 525 model was equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder engine. Transmission: 4-speed. MKPP, 5-speed. MKPP.
  • Second generation (E28) - 1981 to 1988. This generation, despite its outward similarity to the E12, was equipped with a number of changes introduced by the BMW brand in terms of build quality and equipment. These changes included, among others, a reduction in the weight of the car - the E28 became 60-90 kg lighter (depending on the version) compared to its predecessor. The most important changes to the engine are, above all, improvements to the fuel and ignition system. Engines: gasoline: four- and six-cylinder, diesel: six-cylinder. Transmission: 4-speed. MKPP, 4-speed. Automatic transmission, 5-speed. MKPP, 5-speed. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
  • Third generation (E34) - from 1988 to 1996. Initially, this generation was produced only as a sedan, and in 1990, cars of station wagon type were produced, which were called Touring. On this generation were installed gasoline engines: four-six and eight-cylinder, diesel: six-cylinder. The cars had both automatic and manual transmission.
  • Fourth generation (E39) - from 1995 to 2003. Stylistically, cars of this generation are related to the E34. Initially, this model was available only as a sedan, and only in 1997 the E39 in a station wagon body appeared. In the cars of the fourth generation, aluminum components in the front suspension were used for the first time. This made it possible to significantly reduce the overall weight. In 1998, the E39 M5 sedan equipped with a 4.9-liter V8 engine (S62 variant) appeared on the market.
  • Fifth generation - 2003 through 2010. In this generation, the factory codes are.E60 for the sedan andE61 for the station wagon. The new model comes with a range of cutting-edge technological features including iDrive, Active Cruise Control, Active Steering and Voice Control. The E60 was also the first generation to feature a turbocharged gasoline engine. Available engines: gasoline: 520i - 156 hp, 525i - 218 hp, 530i - 231 hp (after restyling: 272 hp), 545i - 333 hp, M5 - 5.0 V10 507 hp. SMG

The factory codes for these vehicles are as follows:F10 (4-door sedan),F11 (5-door station wagon),F07 (5-door fastback) and.F18 (4-door sedan with a long wheelbase). The cars were equipped with new systems, such as liquid crystal electronic dashboard (Black Panel Display) and automatic parking. Installed engines: gasoline - four- to six- to eight-cylinder; diesel - four- and six-cylinder v6, v8, v12. Transmission: 6-speed. MKPP, 8-speed. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
  • Seventh generation - 2017 through 2024. The BMW 5 Series produced since 2017 has been assigned the factory codeG30 for a four-door sedan,G31 for the 5-door station wagon andG38 for a 4-door sedan with a long wheelbase. Cars with the code G30 are built on the same modular platform as the 7 Series (G11/G12). The manufacturer has launched the most powerful diesel engine of the series, the M550d xDrive. The powertrain has a displacement of only 3 liters, but as many as four turbochargers, which translates into 400 hp and 760 Nm.
