BMW 1 Series is a line of small cars (C-Class), which debuted in 2004 as the brand's first compact model. This car adopted about 60% of technical solutions from its big brother BMW 3 Series in E90 body.
The first generation - from 2004 to 2013. It was produced in 4 bodies:
Typical BMW traits such as driving pleasure, high-quality engines and precise dynamics are evident here, as is the option to order luxury equipment such as the iDrive system. But the BMW 1 Series sets even more standards: it has the longest wheelbase in its class, short overhangs front and rear, and it is the first car in its segment with two-stage brake lights. Engines are gasoline and diesel: 1.6 - 3.0 liters (85 - 250 kW, 116 - 340 hp), 4- and 6-cylinder.
Second generation - 2011-2019. Presented in 5-door (F20) and 3-door (F21) hatchback bodies. The forward-sloping sill line emphasizes the dynamic, elongated silhouette, while strong fender contours accentuate the rear wheel arches. In the refreshed 2015 model, the front and rear have been redesigned to look even more independent, while the engines offer more power and lower fuel consumption, as well as reduced emissions. Engines are diesel and gasoline: 1.5-3.0 liters (75-250 kW, 102-340 hp), 3-, 4- and 6-cylinder.
Third generation is 2019-2024. Available in sedan (F52) and hatchback (F40) body styles. Sharply defined lines lead from the dynamic, large radiator grille to the athletic rear end. The agile and powerful engines and the sporty chassis, which can be adapted at will via adjustable dampers, guarantee sporty driving dynamics. It is also ensured by the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission. Passengers enjoy an open cabin atmosphere. Driver assistance systems now include, optionally, frontal collision warning with automatic braking, parking assistant and reversing assistant for even greater safety. At the end of 2020, the engines have been optimized again. A 2-liter four-cylinder engine is now available with 131 kW (178 hp) for the BMW 120i and 195 kW (265 hp) for the BMW 128ti.
Fourth generation (F70) - officially introduced on June 4, 2024. The exact start of production is not known.

The cost of a BMW 1 Series can vary significantly depending on a number of factors, including the specific model, year of manufacture, and market conditions. On average, prices for new BMW 1 Series models in Europe start from 28,000 euros for base variants and can exceed 50,000 euros for high-performance versions such as the M135i.
For example, a new BMW 118i in basic trim might cost around 30,000 euros, while a well-equipped 120d xDrive could reach 40,000 euros. The sportier M135i xDrive, boasting 306 horsepower, typically starts at about 48,000 euros but can easily surpass 55,000 euros with optional extras.
Used BMW 1 Series models offer a more budget-friendly entry point to the range. A three-year-old 118i with moderate mileage might be found for around 20,000 euros, while a similar-aged M140i could still command 35,000 euros or more, depending on its condition and specification.
The price of a new BMW 1 Series in 2024 starts at approximately 28,000 euros for the base 118i model with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. However, the final cost can vary significantly based on several factors:
Thus, a well-equipped BMW 1 Series in M Sport trim with a powerful engine and all-wheel drive can cost around 45,000 - 50,000 euros, while the top-of-the-line M135i xDrive with a maximum set of options can exceed 60,000 euros.
Prices for used BMW 1 Series depend on the generation, year of manufacture, mileage, and overall condition of the car. Let's consider the cost for the last two generations:
