How much do new and used Audi cars cost?

Today, Audi is known for its innovative technologies, luxurious design and high performance. And it all started at the end of the 19th century when August Horch, a former Daimler engineer, founded Horch & Cie Motorwagenwerke in Zwickau. A few years after that, Horch left Horch & Cie and founded a new company, Audi Automobilwerke GmbH. The first model was produced in 1910. After 18 years Horch left his company again, which in 1932 merged with Horch, Wanderer and DKW to form Auto Union. The Auto Union symbol becomes the four intertwined rings, symbolising the unity of the four brands. In 1964, Volkswagen bought a controlling stake in Auto Union, and a year later the Audi 80 - the first front-wheel drive Audi - was launched.

In 1974 the company was renamed Audi AG, and in 1980 the Audi Quattro, the first production all-wheel drive passenger car, was launched. In 1985, Audi became a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. At the beginning of the two thousandths, the brand entered the market of the United States and China, becoming one of the world's leading manufacturers of luxury cars.

Now the company is a sponsor of many sports teams and events. In addition, the brand is considered one of the pioneers in the use of all-wheel drive transmissions.

The cost of an Audi car depends on many factors, among which are:

  • Equipment. The presence of additional options (panoramic roof, leather interior, powerful engine, and driver assistance systems) significantly increases the price.
  • Body type. Sedans and station wagons are usually the most affordable options. Sports cars are the most expensive Audi models.
  • Engine and transmission. The type of transmission (manual, automatic, robotised) affect the price. At the same time, gas engines and hybrids are more expensive than petrol engines.
  • Year of manufacture. The newer the car, the more expensive it is.
  • Country. Prices for Audi can differ depending on the country. This is due to different taxes, customs duties and exchange rates.
  • Drive. Cars with four-wheel drive are often more expensive.

When it comes to used cars, other factors such as mileage, history of service and accidents, tuning, technical and external condition (visual damage) will also be important. For example, an Audi A4 costs between €30,000 and €50,000 and an Audi A8 costs between €70,000 and €100,000.

The most affordable car in the Audi range is the A1 compact hatchback. Its base price starts at around €30,000. However, even in the case of a ‘budget’ Audi model, the final price can increase significantly depending on the options chosen.

The cost of A1 is influenced by such factors as engine choice (petrol engines of different power are available), transmission type (manual or automatic), wheel size (from 15 to 18 inches), body colour (standard colours are cheaper than metallic or pearlescent), interior trim (cloth or leather), availability of additional safety and comfort systems (e.g. climate control, parktronic, navigation system).

The most expensive models in the Audi line-up are usually the R8 and RS sports cars, as well as the flagship A8 sedan. The cost of the top versions of these models can exceed 200,000 euros.

For example, the Audi R8 V10 Performance supercar in the maximum configuration can cost about 220,000 euros. The price of such a car is formed from many factors. This is a powerful V10 engine with more than 600 hp, and quattro all-wheel drive, and carbon-ceramic brakes, and carbon fibre body panels.

The price is also influenced by exclusive trim options such as premium quality nappa leather, carbon inserts in the interior, and special body paint colours. Additionally, you can order laser headlights, high-end Bang & Olufsen audio system, sport bucket seats and much more.

In the case of the A8 sedan, especially in the extended L version, the price can reach similar values at the expense of luxury trim, advanced driver assistance systems, including autonomous driving elements, and maximum comfort for rear passengers.
